Twin Delivery



Vaginal delivery for twins:
– Vaginal delivery can be attempted if the first twin is cephalic.
– Epidural is used for pain relief if preferred.
– It is important the mother to be informed that if she decided to deliver vaginally, the doctor may have to perform an urgent cesarean for the second twin in some cases. (possibility less than 5%)

1. Dichorionic/diamniotic twin:
Delivery is scheduled around week 38.

2. Monochorionic/diamniotic twin:
Delivery is scheduled around week 36 – 37 for risk of stillbirth and to avoid complications.


Cesarean delivery for twins in the following cases:
a. Monochorionic/monoamniotic twin:
– Delivery is scheduled around week 32 – 34 to avoid the risk of stillbirth.
– To avoid complications such as cord accidents.

b. If the first twin is in breech position or by the bottom.
c. Placenta previa.
