Bleeding later in pregnancy causes


Placenta Previa:

Possibility: 1/200.
It is when the placenta lies low covering the cervix partially or completely.
It is detected by ultrasound. In most cases, the bleeding is painless.

Most of the cases can be resolved if detected early.


The mother is advised to rest and avoid intercourse.
She might be given steroids injection to help fetus lungs to mature.
If bleeding was not controlled, cesarean delivery will be performed.


Risk factors:
a. More than one previous C-section
b. History of placenta previa
c. Multiple pregnancy
d. Smoking
e. Previous miscarriage
f. Previous uterine surgery
g. Aging
h. Infertility treatment
i. Non-white race
