Labia majoraplasty



Definition:
It is a procedure to reduce the size of the outer lips of the vagina (hair bearing area).

 

This surgery is needed when the labia majora are large in size or changes its shape (feeling full or it loses its firmess) causing discomfort for the woman or embarrassment.


The reasons of Labia majora changes:
– Aging
– Childbirth
– Major weight loss
– Scarring from previous episiotomies
– Previous unsuccessful surgeries


Preparation before the procedure:
Talk to your doctor about your general health condition, allergies, previous experience with anesthesia and all medications you are currently taking.


The procedure:
It is done under either general or regional anesthesia.
The surgeon will remove the extra skin from both sides by making incisions and tightening the area. Dissolvable sutures are used.

In some cases, some fat (taken from another part in the body) or fillers is used to fill the area in case of atrophy.

The procedure takes usually one hour, and the patient can leave the hospital the same day.


Recovery:
– Off work for 5 to 10 days.
– You can use ice packs to reduce swelling. 20 minutes each time.
– Avoid intercourse for 6 weeks.
– Wear cotton underwear.
– Your doctor will give you suitable painkillers to reduce pain.


Complications:
– Swelling: usually goes away after 6 weeks.
– Prolonged bleeding.
– Scarring.
– Infection.
