{"id":773,"date":"2019-03-18T22:14:03","date_gmt":"2019-03-18T22:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dr-hanan.com\/ws\/ar\/?p=773"},"modified":"2021-03-07T23:43:01","modified_gmt":"2021-03-07T23:43:01","slug":"antenatal-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dr-hanan.com\/ws\/en\/antenatal-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Antenatal Care"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"773\" class=\"elementor elementor-773\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-73be5261 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"73be5261\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-7b01786c\" data-id=\"7b01786c\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-35c31941 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"35c31941\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Antenatal Care<\/strong><\/p><hr \/><hr \/><p><strong>You need to visit your doctor as below:<\/strong><\/p><p>&#8211; Every <strong>4<\/strong> weeks in the first <strong>28<\/strong> weeks of your pregnancy.<br \/>&#8211; Every <strong>2-3<\/strong> weeks from week <strong>29<\/strong> to week <strong>36<\/strong> of your pregnancy.<br \/>&#8211; Every week from week <strong>37<\/strong> until the end of your pregnancy.<\/p><p>The total number of visits is often <strong>8<\/strong> visits if the pregnancy is without complications.<\/p><p>(Numbers of visits can change depending on pregnancy complications).<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>The following is done in each visit in all trimesters:<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; Measuring mother&#8217;s blood pressure and weight.<br \/>&#8211; Checking baby&#8217;s position, growth, movement and hear rate.<br \/>&#8211; Urine test for protein and sugar (preeclampsia, diabetes and infection).<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>The first visit: (Ideally before week 10)<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; Checking mother&#8217;s medical history such as twins birth, defects and chronic diseases like diabetes, and medical condition.<br \/>&#8211; Discussing nutrition and vitamins needed during pregnancy.<br \/>&#8211; Lab tests for HIV, rubella, chickenpox, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, syphilis .<br \/>&#8211; Lab tests for blood type RH and Hemoglobin level.<br \/>&#8211; Pelvic and abdominal examination.<br \/>&#8211; Due date estimation.<br \/>&#8211; Ultrasound examination.<br \/>&#8211; Ensuring that the mother had Pap test.<br \/>&#8211; Making sure to quit smoking.<br \/>&#8211; Test of vitamin D might be offered.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>First trimester &#8211; Second visit:<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; Ultrasound check for fetal heart rate.<br \/>&#8211; Diagnosing chromosomal anomalies such as Down syndrome by blood test or ultrasound (optional), specially in pregnancy in advanced age or family history with the syndrome.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Second trimester (week 13 to week 26):<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; Monitoring fetal growth by measuring the uterus height.<br \/>&#8211; Monitoring fetal heart rate and movement.<br \/>&#8211; Ultrasound for baby&#8217;s anatomy evaluation, by week <strong>20<\/strong>. It can help to show the gender too if requested.<br \/>&#8211; Check for any physical complaints from the mother such as swelling in hands and feet.<br \/>&#8211; Blood test for blood count, iron level (anemia) and glucose level for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dr-hanan.com\/ws\/en\/gestational-diabetes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gestational diabetes<\/a><\/span>.<br \/>&#8211; Cervical length measurement.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Third trimester (from week 27 till the end of pregnancy):<\/strong><br \/>&#8211; Examination for the general health of the mother.<br \/>&#8211; Discussing any signs such as contractions, headache, leakage or bleeding.<br \/>&#8211; Test for group B streptococcus. Around week <strong>36<\/strong>.<br \/>&#8211; Checking the frequency of fetus movement.<br \/>&#8211; Non-Stress Test to check fetal heart beat rate if indicated.<br \/>&#8211; Making sure that fetus position is head down.<br \/>&#8211; Tests for anemia and gestational diabetes.<br \/>&#8211; Ultrasound to check the location of the placenta.<br \/>&#8211; Measuring cervix dilation.<br \/>&#8211; Anti D injection might be given if the mother is RH negative. (To read more: <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dr-hanan.com\/ws\/en\/rh-factor-and-pregnancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rh Factor and Pregnancy<\/a>)<\/span><\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Other tests:<\/strong><\/p><p>There are some tests done to detect chromosomal or genetic abnormalities with the fetus such as Down syndrome if requested by the parents.<\/p><hr \/><ul><li>1. Non invasive prenatal testing (NIPT):<\/li><\/ul><p>It is the analysis of fetus DNA in blood sample. For chromosome <strong>21, 18 , 13, X and Y.<\/strong><br \/>It also shows fetal gender.<br \/>It is accurate.<br \/>Done between week <strong>10<\/strong> and week <strong>13<\/strong> of pregnancy.<\/p><hr \/><ul><li>2. Amniocentesis:<\/li><\/ul><p>To detect chromosomal abnormalities, neural tube defects, genetic disorders such as cystic fibrosis, Thalassemia, and sickle cells disease.<\/p><p>When a small amount of the fluid from the sac surrounding the fetus is collected, by a needle inserted through the abdomen.<\/p><p>Done between week <strong>15<\/strong> and week <strong>18<\/strong> of pregnancy.<\/p><p>Rare risks:<br \/>It carries the risk of miscarriage, <strong>1<\/strong> in <strong>200<\/strong>.<br \/>Injury to the fetus or the mother infection is very rare.<\/p><hr \/><ul><li>4.
