Vaginismus<\/strong><\/p>

Definition:<\/strong>
When the muscles of the vagina involuntarily contract when they attempt vaginal penetration.<\/p>

It can happen during medical examination or mainly during intercourse.<\/p>

This can prevent sexual intercourse or make it very painful.<\/p>

Causes of Vaginismus:<\/strong>
Although no direct cause can be found, the following might be considered as factors:
– Past painful intercourse.
– Past sexual abuse or trauma.
– Emotional factors like fear of sexual intercourse, fear of pregnancy or fair of any pain.
– Previous pelvic surgeries.
– Childbirth.
– Urinary tract infection.
– Vaginal yeast infection.
– Belief of sex is shameful or wrong.
– Previous unpleasant medical examination.<\/p>

Symptoms of Vaginismus:<\/strong>
– Painful intercourse.
– Decrease in sexual desire.
– Burning or pain when anything is inserted into the vagina.
– Total failure of vaginal penetration.<\/p>

Diagnosis:<\/strong>
Your doctor may ask you about the history of your case and do a pelvic exam.<\/p>

Treatment:<\/strong>
– Sexual counseling and talking with the specialist about the nature of sex.
– Relaxation techniques.
– Kegel Exercise: contract your pelvic muscles as if you are trying to stop urinating. Hold for 10 seconds, repeat for 10 times three sets a day.
– Vaginal dilators in different sizes: under the supervision of the doctor. To help the muscles stretch and become more flexible.
