style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urination Frequency<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urination Urgency<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: aria-level=\"1\"><b>Urinalysis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Testing for hematuria, proteinuria and pyuria.<\/span><\/p><ul><li antibiotics.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p><ul><li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Imaging and Endoscopy might be done for the following cases:<\/b><\/li><\/ul><ul><li style=\"list-style-type: none;\"><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Persistent symptoms<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rapid recurrence after appropriate treatment<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suspected stone<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women with diabetes<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Post-void Residual<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><b>Treatment:<\/b><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications are used for symptomatic relief.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antibiotic therapy:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nitrofurantoin: duration is typically between 7 -10 days.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole: duration between 3 &#8211; 14 days.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fosfomycin: single dose.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other alternatives: .\u03b2-lactams, and fluoroquinolones.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><b>To avoid recurrence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Antibiotic Prophylaxis:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Single dose after intercourse, when UTI is related to sexual intercourse.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Single dose of antibiotic for a duration ranges from 6 months to 2 years.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Estrogen: for women low in estrogen, e.g. postmenopausal women:<\/span><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vaginal estrogen cream: 0.5 mg daily for 2 weeks, followed by twice weekly for 8 months.<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vaginal estrogen ring: for a total of 36 weeks.<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Methenamine Salt.
