Antibiotics prescribed by the doctors:<\/p><ul><li>Metronidazole 500 mg orally twice a day for 7 days<\/li><\/ul><p>OR<\/p><ul><li>Metronidazole gel, (5 g intravaginally, once a day for 5 days<\/li><\/ul><p>OR<\/p><ul><li>Clindamycin cream 5 g intravaginally at bedtime for 7 days<\/li><\/ul><p>2. Lifestyle changes: abstinence from sexual activity until healed, vitamin supplements, avoiding douches and antiseptic bath products, diet changes.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Treatment Alternatives:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Tinidazole: 2 g orally once daily for 2 days<br \/>OR<\/li><li>Tinidazole: 1 g orally once daily for 5 days<br \/>OR<\/li><li>Clindamycin: 300 mg orally twice daily for 7 days<br \/>OR<\/li><li>Clindamycin ovules: 100 mg intravaginally once at bedtime for 3 days<\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><strong>Treatment during pregnancy:<\/strong><br \/>It is recommended for all symptomatic pregnant women.<br \/>Tinidazole should be avoided.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Follow-ups:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Not necessary if symptoms are resolved.<\/li><li>It is advised to follow up if symptoms recur.<\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><strong>Persistent or recurrent bacterial vaginosis:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Using a different treatment regimen.<\/li><li>Retreatment with the same regimen after the first occurrence.<\/li><li>Multiple recurrences:<ul><li>Metronidazole gel twice weekly for 4\u20136 months.<\/li><li>Oral metronidazole or tinidazole 500 mg twice daily for 7 days, followed by intravaginal boric acid 600 mg daily for 21 days, then metronidazole gel twice weekly for 4\u20136 months.<\/li><li>Monthly 2g of oral metronidazole with fluconazole 150 mg<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><strong>How can recurrent bacterial vaginosis be avoided?<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>Using all of the medication prescribed even after the symptoms are gone.<\/li><li>Avoid douching.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bacterial Vaginosis Bacterial Vaginosis: It is an inflammation of the vagina caused by an overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, which disrupts the balance of the natural bacteria in the vagina.
