color: #000000;\">Calming<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Reducing heart rate and blood pressure<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Helping in getting more oxygen<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Helping in coping with pain<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">The lady can start practicing the breathing techniques during pregnancy so it would be easier later during labor.<\/span><\/p><hr \/><p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Early breathing:<\/span><\/strong><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">When the contractions start (maybe before arriving at the hospital or still at home), breath in deeply through the nose and out slowly through the mouth, repeat for one minute (~ one contraction duration) or until the contraction is over, with focusing on relaxing.<\/span><\/p><hr \/><p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During active labor:<\/span><\/strong><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Relax the shoulder<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Breath in slowly through the nose and breath out through the mouth<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Keep the breathing as slow as possible and speed up when the contractions get more intense<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">When the contractions are at their peak, make the breathing lighter, in and out through the mouth, one breath per second<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">While breathing, try to focus on something in the room such as a picture or a spot on the wall<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">When the intensity decreases, go back to the slow breathing<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Can verbalize the breathing with sounds such as \u201choo\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">During the second stage of labor:<\/span><\/strong><\/p><ul><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">You can use the breathing to focus on pushing the baby out<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Breath in then hold your breath for 6 seconds with each contraction<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Then you may prefer to hold your breath as you push, or release it slowly through your mouth<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">You can repeat step (2) and (3) three to four times during one contraction<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;
