(Surface of 380 mm2 of copper).<br \/>Protection duration: up to 5 years.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Copper IUD advantages:<\/strong><br \/>1. Effective right away<br \/>2. Less spotting outside menstrual period<br \/>3. Does not cause anovulation<br \/>4. Can be used for emergency contraception and then left in place<br \/>5. No hormones so does not cause hormone related side effects<br \/>6. Protection up to 5 years<br \/>7. Does not interfere with lactation<\/p><p><strong>Insertion time after delivery:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>It can be inserted immediately after birth, within 48 hours.<\/li><li>If more than 48 hours , it is usually recommended to wait 4 weeks, but you should consult your doctor about the appropriate time for you.<\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><strong>Candidates for copper IUD:<\/strong><br \/>1. Ladies with history of hormones related side effects.<br \/>2. Women with history or current breast cancer.<br \/>3. Ladies who are fine to continue having cyclic menstrual bleeding or heavier flow.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Contraindications for copper IUD:<\/strong><br \/>1. Pregnancy.<br \/>2. Unexplained uterine bleeding.<br \/>3. Uterus or cervix abnormalities.<br \/>4. Allergy to copper or any other IUD components.<br \/>5. Heavy menstrual bleeding.<br \/>6. Clotting disorders.<br \/>7. Severe anemia.<br \/>8. Immune weakened conditions.<br \/>9. History of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dr-hanan.com\/ws\/en\/ectopic-pregnancy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ectopic pregnancy<\/a><\/span>.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Copper IUD side effects\/risks:<\/strong><br \/>1. Temporary irregular or heavy bleeding in the first three months.<br \/>2. Mild to moderate cramping in the first three months.<br \/>3. Does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.<br \/>4. Increase in the amount of menstrual bleeding, possibility approximately 60%, and it decreases with time.<br \/>5. Perforation during insertion (rare )<br \/>6. Expulsion ( rare )<br \/>7. Pelvic inflammatory disease ( rare )<br \/>8. Possibility of ectopic pregnancy if conceived with IUD in place.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>After the insertion:<\/strong><br \/>1. Spotting or bleeding is expected immediately after IUD insertion.<br \/>2. Check with the doctor after one month that it is in place.<br \/>3. IUD must be removed if possible if conceived.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Removing the IUD:<\/strong><br \/>The IUD can be removed during or outside menstruation periods.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>The lady must go to the hospital if:<\/strong><br \/>1. Heavy unusual bleeding.<br \/>2. Signs of pregnancy.<br \/>3. Foul unusual vaginal discharge.<br \/>4. Abnormal abdomen pain.<br \/>5. Pain during intercourse.<br \/>6. Feeling that it is moved from its place.<br \/>7.
