Reduces menstrual flow, which reduces the possibility of anemia.<\/p><p>2. Less painful period.<\/p><p>3. Used in treating pain caused by endometriosis.<\/p><p>4. More effective at preventing pregnancy than <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/dr-hanan.com\/ws\/en\/copper-iud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">copper IUD<\/a><\/span>.<\/p><p>5. Up to 5 years protection.<\/p><p>6. Safe with breastfeeding.<\/p><p><strong>Insertion time after delivery:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>It can be inserted immediately after birth, within 48 hours.<\/li><li>If more than 48 hours , it is usually recommended to wait 4 weeks, but you should consult your doctor about the appropriate time for you.<\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p><strong>Candidates for hormonal IUD:<\/strong><\/p><p><b><br \/><\/b><br \/>1. Ladies look for lighter bleeding patterns<\/p><p>2. Ladies who can tolerate amenorrhea, possibility around 30%<\/p><p>3. Ladies desire less pain during period<\/p><p>4. Ladies on anticoagulant Medication<\/p><p>5. Ladies at higher risk of developing endometrial hyperplasia<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Contraindications for hormonal IUD:<\/strong><\/p><p><b><br \/><\/b><br \/>1. Pregnancy.<\/p><p>2. Unexplained uterine bleeding.<\/p><p>3. Uterus or cervix abnormalities.<\/p><p>4. Untreated sexually transmitted disease or pelvic infection.<\/p><p>5. Current or history of breast cancer.<\/p><p>6. History of arterial disease or stroke.<\/p><p>7. Liver disease or tumors.<\/p><p>8. Blood clotting problems.<\/p><p>9. High blood pressure.<\/p><p>10. Migraine with aura .<\/p><p>11. Kidney failure.<\/p><p>12. Endometrial cancer and cervical cancer.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Hormonal IUD side effects\/disadvantages:<\/strong><\/p><p><b><br \/><\/b><br \/>1. Temporary irregular or heavy bleeding in the first three months.<\/p><p>2. Amenorrhea might happen.<\/p><p>3. Mild to moderate cramping in the first three months.<\/p><p>4. Does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.<\/p><p>5. Hormonal side effects such as acne (15%), weight change (less than 5%), headache, nausea, and mood changes (very small).<\/p><p>6. Perforation during insertion, rare.<\/p><p>7. Expulsion, rare.<\/p><p>8. Pelvic inflammatory disease , rare.<\/p><p>9. Small possibility of ectopic pregnancy if conceived with IUD in place.<\/p><p>10. Ovarian cycts, possibility of 7%.<\/p><p>11. It can not be used as emergency contraception.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>After the insertion:<\/strong><\/p><p><b><br \/><\/b><br \/>1. spotting or bleeding is expected immediately after IUD insertion.<\/p><p>2. You can check with the doctor after one month that it is in place.<\/p><p>3. If inserted more than seven days after the start of period, it is advised to use backup contraception for one week for Hormonal IUD.<\/p><p>4. IUD must be removed if possible if conceived.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>Removing the IUD:<\/strong><\/p><p><b><br \/><\/b><br \/>Light bleeding and cramping is expected during removal.<\/p><hr \/><p><strong>The lady must go to the hospital if:<\/strong><\/p><p><b><br \/><\/b><br \/>1. Heavy unusual bleeding.<\/p><p>2. Signs of pregnancy.<\/p><p>3. Foul unusual vaginal discharge.<\/p><p>4. Abnormal abdomen pain.<\/p><p>5. Pain during intercourse.<\/p><p>6. Feeling that it is moved from its place.<\/p><p>7. Unexplained fever.<\/p><p>8.
