vNOTES (vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery):

  • Advanced minimally invasive gynecologic surgery
  • Uses the vagina as a surgical access route
  • With improved access and visualization
  • Consists of a specialized instruments (and high-definition camera) that are placed through the vagina to the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries without the need for abdominal incisions
  • Combines the benefits of laparoscopic and traditional vaginal surgery

Procedures/ Conditions treated by vNOTES:

  • Hysterectomy for:
    Adenomyosis 
    Abnormal uterine bleeding
    Uterine prolapse
  • Oophorectomy – the removal of one or both ovaries
  • Salpingectomy – the removal of one or both fallopian tubes
  • Ovarian cysts removal.
  • Fibroids removal

How it is performed:

  • Under general anesthesia
  • An incision in the vagina near the cervix is made
  • vNOTES surgical instruments (with a video camera and light source) is placed through the incision
  • Surgery needed is performed.

Contraindications of vNOTES:

  • Contraindications to general anesthesia
  • Pregnancy
  • Have an active genitourinary infection
  • History of pelvic inflammatory disease
  • History of endometriosis
  • History of rectal or extensive pelvic surgery.
